Were you able to make it out to this month’s Brewing up Business hosted by BATL Nashville and STF Events and Catering? If not, you missed out on a lot of fun and great networking!
In addition to the ax throwing and tasty bites, we were given updates on the chamber, issues affecting the middle Tennessee area, and upcoming events.
The Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce Updates
Joe Woolley, CEO of the chamber, gave the following updates:
- There have been 100+ guests at each of the last six Brewing up Business’
- The chamber has over 380 members
- There are now 30 certified LGBT Business Enterprises (LGBTBE) thanks to the chamber assisting with certifications for members.
- There were 33 chamber members selected to be a part of the NFL Draft and are included in the NFL guide. Of those 33, 10 are certified LGBTBEs.
Issues Affecting Middle Tennessee
Next week many members of the LGBT+ and ally community will be advocating at the state legislature against three of the bills that are a part of this year’s “Slate of Hate”. Woolley will be sending out an action alert about these bills. Also, be sure to follow TEP for more updates and how you can join in on stopping these discriminatory bills.
Also be on the lookout for information next week about business in Tennessee who are banding together to tell the Tennessee legislature that passing these discriminatory bills will hurt Tennessee’s economy.
NFL DRAFT: Be on the lookout for Nashville’s very own Joe Woolley who was selected to announce the draft during the sixth round during the NFL Draft 2019 right here in Nashville! The sixth-round picks will be announced during Saturday’s festivities.
Brewing up Business: In May, the chamber is planning to have a meet and greet with Metro Nashville Mayoral and Council Member candidates. For June, there will be a joint chamber meeting with other minority chambers in Nashville. There is also a plan for a mayoral forum in July. More details to come.
